Everyday Imagery

In New York, we are having the first real Spring in years, and I can’t get enough of it. I truly believe that Fall and Spring are the seasons when you get the most out of your wardrobe. You can wear boots with dresses, sandals with jeans and your entire collection of lightweight jackets. The past few weeks were filled with tons of inspiration gathering for an upcoming punk inspired photo shoot, dining outside and picnics in the park.Everyday Imagery- Decoration Book Binding, Latex Harness Construction with Tableaux Vivants, Chaos to Couture Punk Exhibit at the Met, Abstract Art by Clyfford Still at the Met Museum | DeSmitten Everyday Imagery - Dining on the streets of Soho NY, Picnic Dinner in Prospect Park, My Personal Style wearing All Saints top, Zara Sandals, Fort Green Brooklyn Flea Market Letters | DeSmitten Everyday Imagery- My Personal Style Wearing Raia Deco Necklace, H&M Sweater, Chloe Sandals, DIY Brainstorming with Leather. Spirit & Flesh Guest Post: Farm Fresh

A few weeks ago, I headed to a horse farm in upstate New York to style a Frida Kahlo inspired photo shoot. Here is a sneak peak with some of my favorite looks, for the full editorial, visit Spirit & Flesh Magazine.

DIY: Sporty Tee

This is the closest I’ll ever get to talking sports, so take note. The sporty trend we’ve seen for a few seasons won’t be going anywhere this year. An easy way to get the look without looking like you’ve just left the gym is to incorporate small details into your otherwise stylish street ready wardrobe. I love this DIY because you can apply these sporty stripes to any t-shirt in your closet. I chose to use a men’s white tee that I usually sleep in, because I liked the over sized look. I also think these stripes would look awesome on a vintage graphic tee. DIY Sporty Tee, Women's Fashion Spring 2013 | DeSmittenDIY Sporty Tee, Women's Fashion Spring 2013 | DeSmittenGather your tools and supplies- Your choice tee + painters tape (or masking tape) + sponge brush + water based black fabric paint. I used this kind.

When taping the front of your sleeve, cut a long enough piece of tape so you can wrap it around the back of the sleeve in one continuous piece.

Because you are painting on a knit tee, do not use long brush strokes, just dab the paint onto the sleeves until it is saturated.

Wear Now: Printed Bomber Jacket

I know this sounds hard to believe, but I am loving printed bomber jackets right now! In my mostly solid and neutral wardrobe, I found that throwing a printed jacket over an all black look changes everything. My Mom is in town, so over the weekend we did a little shopping, and she bought me this amazing quilted print-mix bomber from H&M’s Conscious Collection, and I haven’t taken it off since. On Sunday we went to the Brooklyn Botanic Garden, which is just a few short blocks from my apartment, and my jacket fit right in with the flora and fauna.

Streamlined Boho for Nanushka Spring + Summer 2013

The Nanushka Spring/Summer 2013 look book has a streamlined bohemian vibe that makes it perfect for the season. I could live in the blush cut offs, quilted denim coat and easy black bomber all season long.

DIY: Tassel Necklace

I love the bohemian essence that a tassel brings to any outfit, whether it be on the end of a belt, a scarf or in this case on a necklace. For spring and summer I wear more white, so I thought making a black tassel necklace was ideal.

DIY TASSEL NECKLACE | DeSmitten

How to make a tassel necklace | DeSmitten First, gather your tools. You can use any beads, or stones. I chose to use lava beads which have a great texture and are charcoal in color. I had a few crystals left over from another project, so I decided to incorporate them into this necklace. DIY Tassel Necklace | DeSmitten

Knot the end of your string, and string your beads onto your necklace.
