NYFW: The Row Fall 2017

It’s refreshing to see so many political messages of hope on the New York runways this season. One of my favorites comes from The Row Fall 2017 collection. Small embroideries punctuate white shirts with messages of unity, dignity, freedom and hope. All things we want for the future of our country. The placement of the embroideries signify that they are more for the wearer than the observer. Other favorite moments at The Row include a splash of yellow, raw fringed edges, head to toe monochrome looks, cinched waists and refined black acid wash denim.

New York Fashion Week Essentials

I’m lucky enough to have my birthday fall right before the craziness of New York Fashion Week, which means that my day of birthday pampering, i.e. manicure and massage, doubles as Fashion Week prep. Now that that’s out of the way, let’s talk Fashion Week essentials. Here are my must-have with me at all times items.

Shoulder Bag // I’ve carried the Johan bag from Jerome Dreyfuss for the past few seasons and it’s versatility is king during such a busy week when anything can happen. With a shoulder strap and adjustable handles, it offers different looks and the side zippers allow for more room to stash  fashion show freebies.

Luxury Face Oil // I finally gave in and bought myself the Rodin Olio Lusso face oil and it is the perfect product to help sooth my skin after a day in and out harsh weather.

Makeup Remover Wipes // My new-found quick fix for removing salt stains from leather boots is using Neutrogena Makeup Remover Wipes. Think of the leather on your boots just like the skin on your face… These moisturizing wipes remove salt stains while keeping your leather looking fresh.

Lip Color // In my book, lip color is only reserved for special occasions, and aside from holiday parties and weddings, fashion week is the only other occasion when I pull out my NARS Velvet Matte Lip Color in Cruella.

Business Cards // I never know who I might run into during Fashion Week, so I always carry an extra stack of business cards, just in case.

iPhone // I always carry my Nikon camera, but I can’t resist using instagram during Fashion Week, so my iPhone gets just as much attention. Follow me for updates this week!

Planner // Believe it or not, sometimes the wonderful world of technology can fail, so I always keep my Marjolein Delhaas Planner with me to take notes and double check my schedule.

Turtleneck Collar // Today is bitter cold here in New York, so my DIY Turtleneck Collar is an easy add-on without creating bulk to my look. Bonus, it makes for a perfect hair tuck!

What are your fashion week essentials?

February may be the shortest month of the year, but it is also the busiest! I know the month isn’t over yet, but here is my February photo diary so far…

Fall 2013 Trend: The Dickie

Maybe the New York designers have watched a few too many episodes of The Big Bang Theory, taking inspiration from Howard’s no-nonsense nerd style and incorporating his favorite accessory, The Dickie into their Fall 2013 collections. I don’t hate the look, and it is actually a great scarf replacement (wish I had one yesterday in the wind storm that kept untying my scarf). Would you wear this trend?

Fall 2013 Trend: Camo City

A few days before New York fashion week began, a very fashionable friend of mine asked my opinion on camouflage, this is what I told her. 1– I think it is a print that never goes away, we see it season after season the same way we see leopard print, always slightly different but someone is always doing it and people are always wearing it. 2– It acts as a neutral. It works on any garment in most fabrics, it is a print that wears well with other prints and colors. 3– I love to see an abstract version of camouflage. The New York Fall 2013 runways delivered a Camo City. My favorite abstract camo moments were from A Detacher, Timo Weiland and Alexander Wang. Maybe they didn’t define these prints as camouflage, but I would wear them as such.
