Coat Color of the Season: Navy

It’s almost time to bring out the heavy toppers for a season that I have a love/hate relationship with, winter. I love to dress in layers but hate being cold and wet, wandering around the streets of New York. Every year around this time I gather inspiration for the perfect winter coat, swearing that this year I will invest in a new one. As most New Yorkers, the majority of my wardrobe is black, so with a number of black coats already in my closet, I have declared navy blue as the coat color of the season.

Slightly less severe than black, this inky blue hue can pull any look together with an air of ease. I love the classic nostalgic feeling navy blue has on my favorite coat shapes of the season.

The chunky and sometimes nubby texture of a sweater coat screams comfort and warmth. I love the long lines of the Étoile Isabel Marant style and versatility of the 6397 style, is it a cape or a coat?

Adding instant polish to any comfy look, the menswear inspired pinstripe coat is a classic. Get the look from Zara or Stella McCartney.

Wish List: Fall 2013

A wish list of sorts… I put together a small collection of pieces that I wouldn’t mind adding to my forever wardrobe. I love how each piece is versatile and able to transcend seasons and even years. In my usual neutral palette, a focus on luxe fabrics is essential, including silk, perforated leather, baby alpaca and neoprene.Wish List of Fall 2013 Must Haves: Ellery White Long Coat. Damir Doma

Fall 2013 Trend: Long Wrap Bottoms

This season I’m all about new bottom silhouettes to replace my go-to skinny pant, remember these? My new obsession for Fall 2013 is a long wrap skirt or pant. I love how these bottoms create an instant layered look, so you can keep your top super simple. Editorial Eclipse: 50 Layers of Gray

When I woke up super early this morning to the crisp almost-autumn air, all I could think about was this cozy chic, effortlessly styled editorial from The Last Magazine. Styled by one of my all time favorite stylists, Alastair McKimm, he melds the 50 layers of gray into one beautifully cohesive collection of textures and structural silhouettes.

Must Have Pants for Fall: Crop + Flare

I fell in love with the idea of a cropped flare pant when Emma Elwin wore this head to toe navy look during the Men’s shows in January.  Since then, this above the ankle silhouette has become my must have pants for fall. It’s showing up everywhere, in everyday denim at Proenza Schouler , with weekend casual details at 3.1 Phillip Lim, and in luxe leather at The Row. Making an appearance at the Alexander McQueen resort show (looks 18 + 19) is clear proof that this abbreviated silhouette has staying power.

Would you wear it?
