DIY: Denim Hem Update

In an effort to update my denim game for fall, I went through my bag of clothes destined to sell and found this old pair of Madewell jeans which were always about 5 inches too long for me. Instead of selling them at Beacon’s Closet, I decided to give them a denim hem update. Taking inspiration from the ever illusive Vêtements jeans (which retail for around $1500), I went for a more asymmetrical cut off. Here’s how I did it…

DIY: Leather Wrap Skirt + Giveaway

DIY-Leather-Wrap-Skirt-Inspiration-Leather-Giveaway-DeSmitten

I’m investing more in blue these days and I think indigo leather is a welcomed alternative to denim and black leather for Spring/Summer. With this in mind, I designed an easy leather wrap skirt taking silhouette inspiration from the refined flared skirts Nicolas Ghesquière presented at his première show for Louis Vuitton. For added comfort and design detail I used black exposed elastic.

This DIY leather wrap skirt comes with your chance to win a $50 gift card to the Leather Hide Store, which is where I get all of my leather for my DIYs! Simply like the Leather Hide Store on Facebook and leave a comment on this post for a chance to win. The winner will be announced on Sunday, April 6, 2014. Tell your friends! (Open to US and Canada only).

When choosing my leather color, I went for a blue that mimics a medium wash denim with a hint of grey. A color that can transition from day to night and through the seasons.

Always looking for an easy styling update, I fell in love with the simple turtleneck collar that I saw in the J.W. Anderson and Christian Dior Pre-Fall 2014 collections. Such a simple accessory to throw on with a blazer or dress, I had to make my own. I wore my new turtleneck collar with vintage pieces from our Same State shop and it instantly updated my look.
