The simple structures that Pheobe Philo creates for Céline, both in her clothes and accessories, have a complex simplicity that I find fascinating. A few months ago, I tackled the leather knot bracelet from the Spring 2013 Céline runway, and today, I’ve moved onto one of the more structural clutches for Fall 2013.
For this project, I teamed up with Kyson Leather, one of the leading leather providers in the United States. Based in North Carolina, the family owned business sells wholesale priced upholstery leather to the public. With thousands of qualities, in every color and exotic skin pattern you can think of, its hard to believe that everything is made from cow hide. Their leather quality has great structure, which is perfect for this project. I chose to use the Ivory Gator quality, I loved the color variation in the skin. Their customer service is fantastic, so don’t hesitate to contact them if you don’t see what you want on their site.
Gather your tools: Two square feet of heavy structured leather + scissors and exacto knife + thread and sewing machine + large jump ring + closure of your choice

And finally, wear it! I am wearing it with Helmut Lang Jeans / Chloé Sandals / Raquel Allegra Tee
I used to shy away from white leather due to my inability to keep things clean, but I’ve decided I’m going to have to learn because my obsession is taking over my fear. As I started thinking about all the ways to wear white leather jackets, I realized it is a classic, seasonless staple that every woman should have in her closet. Here are a three ways I would wear a white leather jacket right now…
1- Toughen up your favorite feminine slip dress by throwing on a sporty white leather jacket.

2- A softly draped white leather jacket adds instant polish to your daytime denim cutoffs.
3- If you’re channeling the Punk exhibit at the Met, then a white leather moto will fit in with your current inspiration and continue to be your go to moto for years to come.
I live and die for my black handbag, I wear it with everything and carry it everywhere, short of a black tie event. Around this time of year, I am always anxious for a change in handbag scenery. This fleshy, peachy color that everyone deems natural, looks and feels fresh for summer, while the shapes are like small sculptures hanging from your shoulder.

This is the closest I’ll ever get to talking sports, so take note. The sporty trend we’ve seen for a few seasons won’t be going anywhere this year. An easy way to get the look without looking like you’ve just left the gym is to incorporate small details into your otherwise stylish street ready wardrobe. I love this DIY because you can apply these sporty stripes to any t-shirt in your closet. I chose to use a men’s white tee that I usually sleep in, because I liked the over sized look. I also think these stripes would look awesome on a vintage graphic tee. Gather your tools and supplies- Your choice tee + painters tape (or masking tape) + sponge brush + water based black fabric paint. I used this kind.
When taping the front of your sleeve, cut a long enough piece of tape so you can wrap it around the back of the sleeve in one continuous piece.
Because you are painting on a knit tee, do not use long brush strokes, just dab the paint onto the sleeves until it is saturated.
And finally, wear it!

I know this sounds hard to believe, but I am loving printed bomber jackets right now! In my mostly solid and neutral wardrobe, I found that throwing a printed jacket over an all black look changes everything. My Mom is in town, so over the weekend we did a little shopping, and she bought me this amazing quilted print-mix bomber from H&M’s Conscious Collection, and I haven’t taken it off since. On Sunday we went to the Brooklyn Botanic Garden, which is just a few short blocks from my apartment, and my jacket fit right in with the flora and fauna.
