Less is Best: Minimal Table Setting for Thanksgiving

Do you ever wake up and realize an entire month is almost over? I can’t believe Thanksgiving is already next week! I am scrambling to get our vegan Thanksgiving plans together, but in the meantime I thought I’d share my ideas for a minimal table setting for Thanksgiving. In most instances in my life, less is best.

Let the dishes act as decorative sculpture on your table. Select handmade serving dishes from artists like Christiane Perrochon and Brickett Davda. The handmade quality of their work adds an organic layer of coziness to any table setting.

The table will be full of food, opt for a singular wild green arrangement to best utilize your table space. I love the idea of an off centered arrangement, strategically placed between guests so it doesn’t obstruct the view from across the table. I prefer to forage for wild greens like these, but you can also pick up eucalyptus or dried wheat at your local farmer’s market. A clear, cylindrical vase works well because it doesn’t act as a wall between guests. Make sure the widest part of the arrangement sits above the heads of guests when seated.

Stick to a neutral color palette. I chose all white for this table setting because the warmth of the wood table will echo the colors of the autumnal vegetables being served. The white dishes will brighten up the table and make everything feel fresh.

Table linens feel too formal at times like these, opt for a lightweight cheesecloth runner that you can dispose of afterwards and raw linen napkins with frayed edges. These are sure to add a layer of warmth without the stuffiness of a table cloth.
