I always turn to art when fashion starts to annoy me. Art is like the weekend to my fashion weekdays… Anyway, today I find solace in Richard Serra’s work. As WSJ Magazine’s Art Innovator of 2015, Serra’s art defies gravity and redefines sculpture. Serra’s work draws me in because it alters the surrounding environment. His sculptures often give spaces new meaning, especially in this piece entitled ‘East-West/West-East’ in the Qatari desert. Made of four thin, steel plates placed in a row spanning a half mile and towering almost five stories high. The stark metal sculptures against the earthy desert landscape create a juxtaposition like no other. Viewing the four steel plates from different angles gives the desert new meaning.
