September Design Inspiration

september-design-inspiration-de-smet-dossier

I spent the better part of last week trying to make a dress to wear to a wedding, but it never came together. The wedding came and went, while the dress hung in limbo in my studio. I realized that the dress will stay unfinished because my heart wasn’t in it. The entire time I worked on the dress, all I could think about were the yards of double-faced boiled wool that sat under my table. I bought it in the dead of summer and didn’t think about it again until a chill hit the air.

Needless to say, my September design inspiration come from the fabric itself… Structured, but soft to the touch. Heavy in weight, but light in color. The images below captured my mood for light Fall neutrals which I pulled from different instagram accounts that I follow: @charliemay // @camillasverdrupthygeson // @gagosiangallery.

As I explore new neutrals for Fall, my focus is set on light earth tones of clay, sand and stone. Structured fluidity defines my September design for Project de. Made of double-faced felted wool, the soft pleats reconfigure the human form. An ideal transitional top that can be worn alone or layered over turtlenecks and button up shirts come January. I intend on making more pieces in this fabric so stay tuned!
