Tara Donovan at Pace Gallery

I always love when I have a few hours in between meetings, I find it’s the best time to pop into art galleries and catch the latest exhibit. Last week when I had the chance, I made my way over to the Tara Donovan exhibit at Pace Gallery. As one of my favorite artists, I have to say, the photos don’t do her work justice, you have to view it in person. Her repetitive use of small objects to create large-scale installation art is an experience in itself.

The acrylic rod structure took on many forms. From afar the way the organic shape caught the light, made it look fluffy and soft. But upon closer inspection, the rods looked like raw crystals or some sort of sea creature. The complexity and layers of this exhibit will continue to inspire new ideas within my own designs for seasons to come.

From a distance, Donovan’s installation made entirely of index cards reminded me of glaciers. As I moved among the towers of cards, the structures felt more delicate, not as permanent, and I couldn’t help but wonder, if one card was pulled out, would they all tumble to the ground?
