DIY: Fold Over Clutch

The hottest accessory of the season, a simple bright clutch, is a must have for every girl. But what price will you pay for this look? $160-$180 for a Claire Vivier Clutch, $95 for a Comme des Garcons Clutch, or $50-$68 for an American Apparel Clutch, …   Well I am here to show you how to make it for around $30!  Inspired by this post, I decided to make my own. The key is to finding a sturdy leather in a bright color and buying about 2 square feet (or a small hide) and an exposed metal zipper with colored zipper tape. Simply cut 2 squares of leather measuring about 12 1/2″ by 12 1/2″ (this leaves 1/2″ for seam allowance).  Cut 2 small strips about 5/8″ wide to finish the zipper at either end. First sew the zipper to top edges with 5/8″ strips at either end of the zipper. Leaving the zipper slightly open, finish sewing the other 3 sides of the bag together and turn inside out…. and you are set to walk out the door! Here is my finished product….

  2. Hello,
I’m thinking about making this clutch using comic print soft leather, will one yard be enough fabric to make this clutch in the exact size?
